It's like deja vu all over again... (FFwD: Deconstructed BLT Salad)

Some times you just get the sense that "it is like deja vu all over again"?

It was a Yogi Berra moment...

Which then led me down the trail to Yogi Bear...

Which took my easily distracted mind here...

Any hoo.

Somehow this week, I felt like I had been through many of the same steps, same process.

That it's the same. But different.

I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing.  It just is what it is.

While I was making this salad, I kind of felt like I was making the bacon, egg & asparagus salad.  Expect without the asparagus.  And with croutons (which I made from leftover homemade-bread ends that I keep in the freezer).

Funny thing.  I was going for  hard boiled eggs - but ended up with medium boiled (which for some odd reason, everyone was excited about).  And I totally forgot about the mayonnaise...  (but I don't really like mayo, so perhaps it was a Freudian slip).

Verdict: they liked it, they really liked it...  As much as this reminded me of a salad from FFwD past, I will admit my relief that I did not have to crack open a runny egg over this one.  Just saying...

This post participates in French Fridays with Dorie.  Come check out the salad-y goodness the rest of the FFwD'ers  have been up to.

Happy Friday, y'all.

  1. I agree completely. It seemed not-so-different to me too, except, of course, that I'll always choose bread over asparagus. hehe

  3. This also reminded me of the asparagus salad, but I think I liked this one better. Glad the family liked it.

  7. Everyone including myself had that sense of deja vu, which is why I decided to forego this week's recipe. Saying that though, I'm really distracted by your lovely giant croutons and the number of perfectly boiled eggs on your salad! Please tell me that you shared this... ;-).

  8. I missed the bacon, asparagus and egg salad, and I thought about making these side by side but figured it might make for a nice breakfast salad with a rich french toast possibly... so I waited. I like this in sandwich form much better. :)

  9. Déjà vu, indeed. I liked both, but I think this one has a lot more flavour going on. I'll take it over a BLT any day.

  10. Deja vu is right! I like your eggs being less than hard. We might have liked it better that way. But we did like the salad; it just seemed underwhelming to us. Nice photos!

  12. I'm just glad to keep finding salads I enjoy making and eating! Didn't feel it needed the mayo...

  13. [Forehead slap!] How is it possible that I never thought to store stray, leftover bread slices in the freezer for things like croutons and bread crumbs. Sometimes I think there must be something seriously wrong with my brain!

  14. Yeah, they were a little bit similar, but different enough. I liked it anyway. I like the new look of your blog.

  15. This post made me smile.... loved it. I also keep homemade bread ends in the freezer for the same reasons... love it when the holidays roll around and I have a fantastic base for stuffing!

  18. yep. I had that same moment looking at the other salad even though I've not made it yet. Perhaps one began as a bonne idee of the other?

  19. Yup, and I also had a deja vu moment from the corn soup which had bacon as a garnish and I caught up on the roasted tomatoes that same week so...with the bacon and tomatoes again, and I used some similar veges in my soup...not the lettuce...but some of the others, well, I was having flashbacks from a month ago. But I took the time I usually reserve for FFwD, since the salad was a no brainer, and did some baking of my choice...so it was a good week. I think I need to use bacon more often, my family has enjoyed the bacon "Dorie" recipes.

  20. Your salad looks great. I wasn't with the group when you made the salad with asparagus, but they are very similar. Love the Yogi cartoon... save the cake :)
