Moving on (FFwD: David’s seaweed sablés)

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?

Sea.

Seaweed.

This French Friday, my mind is not far from the ocean.

Because after Runner Girl graduates (can you believe that today is finally the day), we are packing up the car and headed here for a much needed week of sea and sand.

Right now, even my tired is tired...

It's like one day there is this little person that you are suddenly responsible for and with almost no directions whatsoever, you are supposed to take them and guide them into being responsible adults. I have to say, at the time the stork made that delivery, I was really questioning what business the Universe had in trusting me with this little squalling person. Seriously.

At that point,  all I could wish for is that I didn't screw this little person up too much. I really thought that was the best I could hope for. Non-screwed-up-dom.

Somehow, we all survived.

Moving along...

Cookies were made.

With seaweed.

We've made these before, so no one was really freaked out by the concept.

And from a distance they kind of look like chocolate chip cookies.

Until you got up close.

Now, wouldn't that be a shocker to an unsuspecting victim taste tester....

Have a great weekend all!

I'm off to go pack something or clean something or plan something. You name it, I probably still have to do it at some point in the next 24 hours.

Peace out.

This post participates in French Fridays with Dorie. The David Lebovitz version can be found here (I think this is the inspiration for Dorie's version?). Please head over to the FFwD site to see how the other bloggers fared with this somewhat unusual nibble...

  2. Happy Seaside Holiday! It's amazing how fast the babies grow up, I'm still in denial that I have a 19 year old.....Your sables look very tasty!

    1. I did like them. They aren't quite like having a good old oatmeal chocolate chip cookier, but they were interesting. My one daughter really liked them; the other one will eat them but is a little more neutral.

Toasting the nori gives the best texture, I think.

  4. Looks like you mixed seaweed in a dough versus sprinkling on a top as David did. I like it even better. I was thinking about putting my s/weeds somewhere else besides miso soup..can't wait to try! Congratulations on graduation (and your survival too!)

  5. Conratulations, Cher! I hope you have a wonderful vacation! We just got home from Portland yesterday. It was beautiful and we walked our feet off.

I hve my Sables in the fridge and am so skeptical about them. Knowing that you made them twice is encouraging.

  7. You sound exhausted, Cher. All I will ask you is, if you made these once, why would you make them again? Your jury is out?????you didn't say if you liked them. Whether you did or not, congratulations to your entire family and have a great time at the beach.

  10. I hope you have a fabulous vacation! We just returned from freshman orientation...can't believe they're all grown up! Congrats to your daughter.

PS...I knew my family wouldn't touch these, so I made the beets I missed last week~

  11. Do you feel a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment knowing you molded a person that is going to make strides for themselves now? :)
Did you like the cookies? were they more cookie-like or shortbread -like?

  12. The sables look great!
I spent the week at all day futsal and soccer championships and the nights driving kids to school concerts and lady gaga shows. I didn't even try to get this week's recipe done!
I'll miss the chaos (I think) one day. It's all a wild blur and then they graduate!?!
I'm sure you've gotten as close as one can to non-screw-up-dom!
    Enjoy your holiday!!!

  15. Enjoy your vacation! I loved these, but I'm having a hard time eating them with coffee this morning ;-)

  16. Congrats is an understatement :) I am so impressed that you had the discipline to keep on this Dorie schedule in the midst of all you are juggling. It has been an epic level of busy here while I thought things would instead quiet DOWN after graduation (ok, it was a bit of self preservation thinking). Work is insane, the kids are busy and hubby/older son have been in Boston all week at orientation while I man the fort at home. Code for younger son refuses to go anywhere but friends homes before leaving this Fall :) Nana and I did get to a Bistro cooking class and wine pairing Thurs night but I was too tired to write it up this week. Maybe next. Ever the optimist. Enjoy that beach and that family of yours.

  30. Congratulations to you and your daughter for this milestone! I hope you get to relax during your vacation by the sea. We liked these cookies as well, but did not love them, so I am not sure I will make them again. It's a nice, easy recipe, though.
